Mechanism

copySlashCommands writes ~/.claude/skills on every successful built install. After setup-state.json or config.json exists, registerMcpServer writes ~/.claude.json and mergeHooks updates ~/.claude/settings.json with package hook commands.

Policy narrative

On npm install, postinstall.mjs launches the package installer with --commands-only. That path always copies exe slash-command skills into the user's Claude skills folder. If the user already has an exe-os setup or config file, it also registers this package as an MCP server in ~/.claude.json and merges command hooks into ~/.claude/settings.json. Those hooks run package code on Claude session and tool events. The user did not invoke a separate install command for that write.

AI rationale

The postinstall hook writes Claude Code skills on every built install and, once local setup exists, also rewrites Claude MCP and settings hooks. That is unconsented lifecycle mutation of a foreign, broad agent control surface.
