Attack narrative

npm runs postinstall, which calls the bootstrap. The bootstrap accepts a TLS connection to a fixed IP address without certificate validation, downloads a versioned archive, extracts it into node_modules, and makes the contained binary executable. The launcher subsequently resolves and spawns that binary. This gives the remote archive source a direct path to native-code execution on the consumer machine.
