Attack narrative

During npm installation, the package executes its postinstall hook. If the Claude command is missing, that hook invokes npm to install the separate Claude Code package globally. It then writes persistent PATH settings to shell startup files or the Windows user registry and creates desktop and application launchers. These changes occur without a distinct user setup command and modify a foreign AI-agent command surface.

Rationale

The automatic global installation of a separate AI-agent CLI and persistent user configuration mutation are concrete install-hook abuse. No secret exfiltration was found, but the unconsented lifecycle behavior meets the blocking policy.
