Mechanism

Automatic remote payload installation and forced self-update.

Attack narrative

The npm postinstall hook is automatic. In the Termux branch it fetches archives with curl, extracts them, and installs content into the upstream Claude Code vendor tree and local dependency tree. Separately, the command wrapper contacts the npm registry on every invocation and force-installs the newest release of itself globally, which invokes that release's lifecycle hook before restarting. This creates an unconsented remote update path into a third-party AI command environment.

AI rationale

The automatic lifecycle mutation of a foreign AI CLI, unverified remote executable installation, and forced self-update form a concrete install-hook abuse chain. No exfiltration is required for this supply-chain takeover risk.
