AI Security Review

scanned 1mo ago · by lpm-firewall-ai

LPM flags this version as an AI-agent control-surface risk. Installing the package automatically rewrites DeepSeek agent dependencies, bypassing a credential ownership check and loopback token authentication. It also removes agent sandbox and subprocess components recursively.

Static reason

One or more suspicious static signals were detected.

Trigger

npm postinstall during dependency installation.

Impact

Local users can receive an unauthenticated long-lived session cookie, lose installed safety components, and run altered DeepSeek agent code.

Mechanism

Automatic mutation and pruning of foreign AI-agent modules.

Policy narrative

On installation, postinstall invokes the patcher and pruner without a user command. The patcher changes files inside the installed DeepSeek dependency tree: it skips a credential owner check and makes a loopback web request mint a 30-day session cookie without a token. The pruner recursively removes sandbox and subprocess-related packages. These are unconsented changes to a foreign AI-agent control surface.

AI rationale

This is a concrete automatic install-hook attack on a foreign AI-agent control surface, not merely a platform shim. The lack of observed exfiltration does not offset the installed authentication bypass and removal of safety components.
