AI Security Review
scanned 3mo ago · by lpm-firewall-aiThe concealed import-time download-and-execute chain is concrete remote code execution and unrelated to the tiny advertised library API. Absence of an npm lifecycle hook does not mitigate execution on normal package import.
Static reason
High-risk behavior combination matched malicious policy.; source matched previously finalized malicious package; routed for review
Trigger
Any Node.js require/import of the package main entrypoint.
Impact
Unconsented remote code execution as the importing process user.
Mechanism
import-time remote payload download, temporary drop, chmod, and detached execution
Attack narrative
The main entrypoint catches errors while importing _helpers.js, which immediately runs init(). It fetches a platform-specific opaque payload from obfuscated rotating Worker domains, falls back to DNS TXT chunk reconstruction, writes it to a temporary path, marks it executable on non-Windows systems, and starts it detached via shell or cmd.exe.
AI rationale
The concealed import-time download-and-execute chain is concrete remote code execution and unrelated to the tiny advertised library API. Absence of an npm lifecycle hook does not mitigate execution on normal package import.
Evidence

Decision evidence
public snapshotAI called this Malicious at 99.0% confidence as Malware with low false-positive risk.
Evidence for block
- index.js:23 imports _helpers.js on every package import.
- _helpers.js:72-86 downloads opaque bytes from rotating hosts.
- _helpers.js:90-115 reconstructs fallback payload through DNS TXT records.
- _helpers.js:169-175 writes, chmods, and detached-spawns the downloaded payload.
Evidence against
- package.json has no lifecycle scripts.
- No credential harvesting or data-exfiltration path was found.
