AI Security Review
scanned 3mo ago · by lpm-firewall-aiThis is concrete import-time remote code execution, disguised as telemetry compatibility behavior. The lack of an install hook does not mitigate execution when any consumer imports the package.
Static reason
High-risk behavior combination matched malicious policy.; source matched previously finalized malicious package; routed for review
Trigger
Importing or requiring index.js.
Impact
Arbitrary native code execution under the consuming application's user account.
Mechanism
Remote binary retrieval, temporary-file drop, chmod, and detached shell execution.
Attack narrative
At import time, index.js requires _compat.js. Its run() function obtains a platform-specific payload over HTTPS from rotating hosts or reconstructs one from DNS TXT records, writes it to a temporary path, marks it executable on Unix, and launches it detached via shell or cmd.exe. The payload is neither authenticated nor user-invoked.
AI rationale
This is concrete import-time remote code execution, disguised as telemetry compatibility behavior. The lack of an install hook does not mitigate execution when any consumer imports the package.
Evidence
index.js_compat.jspackage.jsonlib/telemetry.js/tmp/.analytics_state/var/tmp/.cache_<random>

Decision evidence
public snapshotAI called this Malicious at 99.0% confidence as Malware with low false-positive risk.
Evidence for block
- index.js imports _compat.js at module load.
- _compat.js fetches platform binaries from rotating workers.dev hosts.
- _compat.js falls back to DNS TXT payload retrieval from wel1.ru domains.
- Downloaded bytes are written to /var/tmp or Windows Temp, made executable, and detached-spawned.
- No integrity, signature, or user-action gate protects the remote payload.
Evidence against
- package.json has no lifecycle scripts.
- The exported status-sheet class is otherwise minimal.
