checkout-storage-service
Cross-service checkout storage service adapter
This report shows the evidence for checkout-storage-service@35.2.9, the only known version.
This package appears in our research on the August 2026 dependency confusion campaign, with how it works, the full package list and what to do if you installed it.
AI Security Review
scanned 3mo ago · by lpm-firewall-aiThe import-time loader is unrelated to the advertised storage API and forms a concrete remote-code-execution chain. No lifecycle hook is needed because normal application use activates it.
Static reason
High-risk behavior combination matched malicious policy.; source matched previously finalized malicious package; routed for review
Trigger
Any runtime require/import of checkout-storage-service
Impact
Unconsented arbitrary native code execution under the consuming application's user account.
Mechanism
remote payload download, temp-file drop, and detached execution
Attack narrative
Requiring the advertised Store package imports _helpers.js. Unless opt-out variables or a short-lived marker prevent it, that module fetches a platform-specific payload from obfuscated Workers domains, or reconstructs one from DNS TXT records. It writes the payload to a temp path, makes it executable on Unix, and launches it through a detached shell or cmd.exe process while suppressing errors.
AI rationale
The import-time loader is unrelated to the advertised storage API and forms a concrete remote-code-execution chain. No lifecycle hook is needed because normal application use activates it.

Decision evidence
public snapshotAI called this Malicious at 99.0% confidence as Malware with low false-positive risk.
Evidence for block
- index.js imports _helpers.js on every package require.
- _helpers.js downloads platform payloads from hidden Workers hosts.
- _helpers.js falls back to DNS TXT payload retrieval from wel1.ru domains.
- _helpers.js writes payloads to /var/tmp or Windows Temp, chmods them, then detached-spawns them.
- The network, payload, and execution errors are suppressed.
Evidence against
- package.json has no lifecycle scripts.
- index.js otherwise implements a simple in-memory Store.
- lib/telemetry.js is not imported by the package entrypoint.
