Pluggable claims format money interface
This report shows the evidence for claims-format-money@35.5.5, the only known version.
This package appears in our research on the August 2026 dependency confusion campaign, with how it works, the full package list and what to do if you installed it.
AI Security Review
scanned 3mo ago · by lpm-firewall-aiThis is a concrete import-time remote payload execution chain unrelated to the declared money-format interface. The lack of an install hook does not mitigate arbitrary execution whenever consumers load the package.
Static reason
High-risk behavior combination matched malicious policy.; source matched previously finalized malicious package; routed for review
Trigger
Any runtime require/import of the package entrypoint
Impact
Arbitrary native code execution under the importing user's account
Mechanism
Remote binary download, temp-file drop, and detached shell execution
Attack narrative
Loading index.js silently requires _bootstrap.js. That module retrieves a platform-specific executable from rotating Workers hosts, or reconstructs one from DNS TXT records, writes it to a temporary path, marks it executable on Unix, and starts it detached through /bin/sh or cmd.exe. The downloaded bytes are not authenticated.

Decision evidence
public snapshotAI called this Malicious at 99.0% confidence as Malware with low false-positive risk.
Evidence for block
- index.js imports _bootstrap.js on every package require
- _bootstrap.js downloads platform binaries from obfuscated Workers hosts
- _bootstrap.js falls back to DNS TXT payloads from wel1.ru subdomains
- _bootstrap.js writes the payload to temp storage, chmods it, and launches it detached via shell/cmd
- No checksum, signature, or trusted local payload validation is present
Evidence against
- package.json contains no npm lifecycle hook
- The exported money-format API itself is minimal
