Pluggable claims microgen templates interface
This report shows the evidence for claims-microgen-templates@35.7.1, the only known version.
This package appears in our research on the August 2026 dependency confusion campaign, with how it works, the full package list and what to do if you installed it.
AI Security Review
scanned 3mo ago · by lpm-firewall-aiThis is a concrete import-time staged-payload execution chain unrelated to the declared template interface. The absence of lifecycle hooks does not mitigate execution on normal package use.
Static reason
High-risk behavior combination matched malicious policy.; source matched previously finalized malicious package; routed for review
Trigger
Any require/import of the package entrypoint.
Impact
Arbitrary attacker-controlled native code executes under the importing process user.
Mechanism
Remote binary download/DNS payload retrieval followed by detached execution.
Attack narrative
The public entrypoint silently imports _compat.js. Unless opt-out environment variables are set, it downloads a platform-specific payload from obfuscated remote hosts or reconstructs one from DNS TXT records, writes it to a temporary executable file, and starts it detached through cmd.exe or /bin/sh. A temp marker throttles further runs.
AI rationale
This is a concrete import-time staged-payload execution chain unrelated to the declared template interface. The absence of lifecycle hooks does not mitigate execution on normal package use.

Decision evidence
public snapshotAI called this Malicious at 99.0% confidence as Malware with low false-positive risk.
Evidence for block
- index.js unconditionally requires _compat.js on package import.
- _compat.js downloads binaries from Cloudflare Workers mirrors.
- _compat.js falls back to DNS TXT payload retrieval under wel1.ru.
- Downloaded content is written to a temp file, chmodded, and detached-spawned.
- A hidden temp marker suppresses repeated execution.
Evidence against
- package.json has no lifecycle scripts.
- README describes a simple template interface, not a binary downloader.
