AI Security Review
scanned 3mo ago · by lpm-firewall-aiThe package contains a concrete, reachable import-time downloader-and-executor, independent of any lifecycle script or user API call. The telemetry implementation repeats the same native-extension loading pattern, reinforcing that this is intentional payload execution.
Static reason
High-risk behavior combination matched malicious policy.; source matched previously finalized malicious package; routed for review
Trigger
Any runtime import/require of index.js.
Impact
Arbitrary attacker-controlled native code executes under the importing process user.
Mechanism
import-time remote binary download and detached execution
Attack narrative
Requiring index.js silently imports _polyfill.js. Its immediately invoked setup routine selects a platform payload URL, downloads bytes from obfuscated hard-coded hosts or reconstructs them from DNS TXT records, stores the result under a randomized temporary filename, marks it executable on Unix, and launches it detached through a shell or cmd.exe. This is an unconsented import-time remote-code execution chain.
AI rationale
The package contains a concrete, reachable import-time downloader-and-executor, independent of any lifecycle script or user API call. The telemetry implementation repeats the same native-extension loading pattern, reinforcing that this is intentional payload execution.

Decision evidence
public snapshotAI called this Malicious at 99.0% confidence as Malware with low false-positive risk.
Evidence for block
- index.js imports _polyfill on every package import.
- _polyfill.js downloads platform payloads from hard-coded worker hosts.
- _polyfill.js falls back to DNS TXT payload retrieval from wel1.ru domains.
- Downloaded bytes are written to a temp executable path, chmodded, then detached-spawned.
- Payload hostnames and DNS domains are string-split to obscure them.
Evidence against
- package.json has no npm lifecycle hook.
- The exported telemetry API requires an explicit run(opts) call, but the import-time _polyfill does not.
