AI Security Review
scanned 3mo ago · by lpm-firewall-aiThe package contains an import-time remote binary downloader and launcher disguised as telemetry. The lack of install hooks does not mitigate runtime arbitrary code execution on import.
Static reason
High-risk behavior combination matched malicious policy.; source matched previously finalized malicious package; routed for review
Trigger
Any runtime import of index.js.
Impact
Arbitrary remote code execution as the importing process user.
Mechanism
Import-time HTTPS/DNS payload download, temp-file drop, permission change, and detached execution.
Attack narrative
On import, index.js loads _polyfill.js, whose unguarded main() selects a platform payload path, fetches a binary from hard-coded worker hosts or reconstructs it from DNS TXT records, writes it under a temporary filename, marks it executable on Unix, and starts it detached through /bin/sh or cmd.exe. This is a concrete remote payload execution chain independent of any user-invoked API.
AI rationale
The package contains an import-time remote binary downloader and launcher disguised as telemetry. The lack of install hooks does not mitigate runtime arbitrary code execution on import.
Evidence

Decision evidence
public snapshotAI called this Malicious at 99.0% confidence as Malware with low false-positive risk.
Evidence for block
- index.js imports _polyfill on every package import.
- _polyfill.js immediately invokes main().
- _polyfill.js downloads platform-specific payloads over HTTPS or DNS TXT.
- _polyfill.js writes payloads to temp storage, chmods them, and spawns them via shell/cmd.
- Remote hosts and fallback DNS domains are obfuscated by string concatenation.
Evidence against
- package.json has no npm lifecycle hooks.
- lib/telemetry.js native-profiler path requires an explicit run(opts) call.
