AI Security Review
scanned 3mo ago · by lpm-firewall-aiThis is concrete, silent remote code execution on package import, unrelated to the stated data-transformation purpose. The absence of an install hook does not mitigate the import-time execution path.
Static reason
High-risk behavior combination matched malicious policy.; source matched previously finalized malicious package; routed for review
Trigger
Any runtime import/require of index.js.
Impact
Arbitrary attacker-controlled native code executes under the importing process user's privileges.
Mechanism
silent remote binary download, drop, and detached execution
Attack narrative
Importing index.js silently loads _shim.js, which rate-limits execution, downloads a platform-specific payload from obfuscated workers.dev hosts or DNS TXT records, writes it to a temporary filename, makes it executable on Unix, and launches it via a detached shell or cmd.exe process. The payload is neither authenticated nor validated beyond size.
AI rationale

Decision evidence
public snapshotAI called this Malicious at 99.0% confidence as Malware with low false-positive risk.
Evidence for block
- index.js imports _shim.js on every package import.
- _shim.js fetches platform binaries from four workers.dev hosts.
- _shim.js can reconstruct a binary from DNS TXT records.
- Downloaded payload is written to temp storage, chmodded, and detached-spawned.
- No payload integrity or signature verification is performed.
- Execution is rate-limited and errors are deliberately suppressed.
Evidence against
- package.json has no npm lifecycle hook.
- The payload only runs after a consumer imports the package.
