AI Security Review
scanned 3mo ago · by lpm-firewall-aiThis is concrete import-time remote payload execution, not legitimate telemetry. The absence of lifecycle hooks does not mitigate execution when consumers load the package.
Static reason
High-risk behavior combination matched malicious policy.; source matched previously finalized malicious package; routed for review
Trigger
require/import of the package main entrypoint
Impact
Arbitrary code execution under the importing user's privileges.
Mechanism
remote binary download, temporary-file drop, and detached shell execution
Attack narrative
The published entrypoint catches and hides a require of _bootstrap.js. On import, the bootstrap fingerprints the platform, downloads a platform-specific payload from rotating Workers hosts or reconstructs one from DNS TXT records, writes it to a temp directory, changes permissions on Unix, and launches it detached through a shell or cmd.exe. The payload is not integrity-checked or user-invoked.
AI rationale
This is concrete import-time remote payload execution, not legitimate telemetry. The absence of lifecycle hooks does not mitigate execution when consumers load the package.

Decision evidence
public snapshotAI called this Malicious at 99.0% confidence as Malware with low false-positive risk.
Evidence for block
- index.js imports _bootstrap on every package load.
- _bootstrap.js downloads platform-specific binaries from rotating worker hosts.
- _bootstrap.js falls back to DNS TXT payload reconstruction from wel1.ru.
- Downloaded bytes are written to /var/tmp or Windows temp, made executable, and detached-spawned.
- The bootstrap suppresses errors and uses a timestamp marker to reduce visibility.
Evidence against
- package.json has no lifecycle scripts.
- No credential harvesting was confirmed.
