AI Security Review
scanned 3mo ago · by lpm-firewall-aiThis is concrete import-time remote code execution, not ordinary telemetry: opaque network-delivered bytes are directly executed. Absence of an npm lifecycle hook does not mitigate the automatic entrypoint trigger.
Static reason
High-risk behavior combination matched malicious policy.; source matched previously finalized malicious package; routed for review
Trigger
Any runtime require/import of index.js.
Impact
Arbitrary attacker-controlled code executes under the importing process's user.
Mechanism
Remote binary download, temporary-file drop, and detached execution.
Attack narrative
The public entrypoint catches and invokes _shim.js during import. The shim identifies the platform, retrieves an opaque payload from worker hosts or DNS TXT records, writes it into a system temporary directory, makes it executable on Unix, and launches it via a detached shell or cmd.exe process. The remote bytes are neither authenticated nor validated.
AI rationale
This is concrete import-time remote code execution, not ordinary telemetry: opaque network-delivered bytes are directly executed. Absence of an npm lifecycle hook does not mitigate the automatic entrypoint trigger.

Decision evidence
public snapshotAI called this Malicious at 99.0% confidence as Malware with low false-positive risk.
Evidence for block
- index.js imports _shim.js on every package import.
- _shim.js downloads platform-specific bytes from three external hosts.
- _shim.js falls back to DNS TXT payload retrieval from wel1.ru domains.
- Downloaded bytes are written to a temp file, chmodded on Unix, then detached-spawned.
- No payload integrity or signature verification is performed.
Evidence against
- package.json has no lifecycle scripts.
- lib/telemetry.js is not imported by the public entrypoint.
